Side by side
Side by Side is a duet written for frame drum and tabla. The piece integrates similar idiomatic phrases found in North Indian tabla traditions and phrases commonly utilized on Middle Eastern frame drum. With its interlocking grooves between the two instruments and its soloistic and virtuosic passages, Side by Side presents opportunities for both players to display technical prowess and speed, while demonstrating complex rhythmic permutations found in Classical Indian tabla compositions including theme and variations, reductions, and tihais.
